Locals are being asked to step back in time and pay homage to 1966, when the late Desmond Leslie set up what has since been described as "Ireland's first real nightclub." Annabel's on the Bog was first opened in the Oriel Room of the Castle Leslie Estate in Glaslough. Not only did the famous nightclub attract clientele such as Mick Jagger, it also played a special role in the lives of border people who faced many challenges at that time.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Sammy Leslie of the Castle Leslie Estate spoke fondly about her late father Desmond's sheer love for music. In paying homage to the late Desmond Leslie and his former nightclub an event will take place at Castle Leslie tomorrow evening. Sammy hopes that this event will be a great opportunity for people to come forward and share their own memories of the nightclub and what it meant to them at that time. Sammy believes it is important to archive such memories and if anyone has information you can contact Sammy via email on [email protected]
The event will take place form 4pm until 11:30pm tomorrow, with booking advised in advance.
