Cavan General Hospital is currently experiencing "significantly high" levels of activity with prolonged waiting times.
That's according to a statement provided to Northern Sound by Acting General Manager of Cavan and Monaghan General Hospital, Laura Waters.
In the statement, the hospital has advised locals of the current high numbers of patient presentations to the Emergency Department.
As a result, significant delays are expected along with limited bed capacity at present.
The hospital has also asked the general public to explore "any alternatives" to an Emergency Department referral in the hope of alleviating further pressures and demand on the service.
The hospital added that it "appreciates" the cooperation of the public at this time.
