Four local people plan to inhabit an island in the Lough Oughter area of North Cavan this weekend to raise funds for St Christopher's Hospice in Cavan. Their task is to stay on an island selected by Cavan Adventure Centre. While all four participants have no idea of its exact location, the Adventure Centre staff will bring them via boat to the island this Friday, November 3rd at 5pm, and will return to collect them at 9am on Sunday morning, November 5th.
Local man John Magee is one of the four participants. Speaking to Northern Sound, he revealed that part of the challenges involves them staying on the selected island without a mobile phone or any other communication device.
"At the end of the day we are fortunate enough to decide to put ourselves out there for 40 hours without any supports and a little bit of discomfort," John explained. "We all know that there are people out there who can't choose, instead discomfort visits them unexpectedly and its those people who we are doing this for and that is what's driving us to get out there and do it."
