Barry Eaton of Monaghan's Age Friendly initiative has reminded locals of the importance of "looking out" for those who are most vulnerable during Storm Éowyn. Mr Eaton outlined a number of ways that people can ensure elderly family members, neighbours or those in communities who are living alone can stay safe. Speaking to Northern Sound, the Age Friendly advocate said it's important to ensure that those who are most vulnerable are supplied with the phone numbers of all utility companies including power, gas, and water.
As well as emergency numbers such as the fire department, police, doctor, and home care provider. Mr Eaton also highlighted that it's important to make sure that those are vulnerable or isolated are equipped with working flashlights and a battery-powered radio, extra batteries on hand. He added that it's important to ensure that they stockpile warm blankets and non-perishable foods. He told Northern Sound; "In a situation like this, obviously we need to look after our most vulnerable which would include older people whin our communities. I would ask for people to speak to their neighbours who are living on their own and who are older to make sure that everything is ok for them in advance of the weather warning tomorrow. The more vulnerable your neighbour is the more reason to reach out to them and try and look after them."
