Locals in Monaghan are being encouraged to share their knowledge of the
county's holy wells as part of a heritage project.
The county's heritage officer is looking to collect information on holy
wells and the rituals and cures associated with them in order to safeguard
this knowledge for future generations.
Shirley Clerkin, Monaghan's Heritage Officer, says local people are often
experts on holy well sites and their help is essential for gathering this
information.
Some of the holy wells date right back to the Iron Age and Shirley is keen
to preserve the folklore around the sites.
