Gardaí have ruled out foul play into the circumstances behind a house fire in Virginia last night that claimed the life of Charlie Morgan.
Ages in his 80s, Mr Morgan was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident which broke out at his cottage outside Virginia. Units from Virginia Fire Brigade and Ballyjamesduff Fire Brigade attended the house fire shortly after 10pm.
Virginia Fire Brigade were in attendance at the incident at 10.15pm. The Incident Commander deployed a Breathing Apparatus team into the single storey dwelling, and the BA team extinguished the fire and recovered a male fatality from the dwelling. The body of the elderly man was removed to Cavan Mortuary and a post mortem examination will be conducted in due course.
Details surrounding last night’s tragedy has left locals in a state of shock, according to local Cavan county councillor TP O’Reilly. Cllr O'Reilly says Charlie was a great character.
