A local councillor has encouraged local commuters to have their say on a new bus route from Kells to Virginia that takes in areas like Ballyjamesduff and Oldcastle. The National Transport Authority (NTA) has opened a public consultation on plans to significantly enhance bus route 187, operated by Bus Éireann. The 187 connects Oldcastle to Virginia travelling via Mountnugent and Ballyjamesduff.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Trevor Smith said he was "delighted" to see developments made on the matter. According to Cllr Smith the current bus service is "not good enough" for a growing town like Ballyjamesduff with a population of almost 3,000 people. He has encouraged as many people as possible to engage with the public consultation process.
"The lack of public transport in Ballyjamesuff has been a big issue," explained Cllr Smith. "I'm delighted to see proposals for an improved service. The proposed new service will run from Monday to Sunday and will operate six journeys out of town and five back in. Passengers will also be able to get to Virginia on time to reach the 109 Dublin bus. I would encourage as many people as possible to engage with this public consultation."
