A Co Monaghan councillor is alerting people to a scam which is currently targeting people in the aftermath of Storm Eowyn. The scammers are targeting people by text with a message purporting to be from the government offering people discounts on their electricity bill.
Cllr Conlon who personally received the scam text to his phone earlier today is now using his public platform to make others aware. Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Conlon says criminals are using the aftermath of Storm Eowyn to target people who have been negatively impacted and are therefore already in a vulnerable position. Cllr Conlon is reminding people to never provide bank details and personal data that could lead to a huge financial loss:
