Anyone in Monaghan and Cavan who owns a protected building or shop front can now avail of funding to restore or repair their heritage structure. It follows on from an announcement by the Department of Heritage of a total of €9 million funding to be distributed between every local authority in Ireland. The funding will be distributed under the Built Heritage Investment Scheme and Heritage Structures Fund.
Both Cavan and Monaghan County Council told Northern Sound they have each been allocated €96,000 under the Built Heritage Scheme. The council is now inviting applications from owners/occupiers of protected buildings or other qualifying structures then applications will be assessed on their merit and the funds available. Grants of up to €15,000 or 50 per cent of the cost of repair work will be given. An additional €500,000 has been retained for thatched buildings, while the 2024 Historic Structures Fund will offer up to €200,000 for projects that deliver a major community benefit.
