A Monaghan councillor has raised his concerns over the significant dumping of waste at Blackwater River. The incident occurred on the outskirts of Aughnacloy. Sinn Fein's Brian McKenna said he was "dumfounded" when he witnessed the mess that was made, describing the actions as "deliberate."
According to Cllr McKenna, what he finds most concerning is that much of the waste has "no doubt" reached Lough Neagh, which will create serious pollution damage to local areas. Cllr McKenna described the incident as an "absolute disgrace" and has encouraged anyone who is aware of illegal dumping to report it. He also fears that situation is only going to get worse unless something is done.
"It's a major concern and it's an absolute disgrace that people would do what they did in this day and age. I would encourage anyone who is aware of anyone dumping waste in any part of our country North or South to report it. You just have to drive down some of our local roads to see the amount of waste dumped and the situation just doesn't seem to be improving."
