A local teacher said he is angry over the idea that any Leaving Certificate examination would be considered for students in fifth year.
ASTI members are strongly opposing proposals to hold Leaving Cert English and Irish Paper One in fifth year.
Enda Tourish - an Irish teacher and member of the Monaghan ASTI branch says model is wrong and can't continue.
He says he has 35 years' experience of teaching in the classroom and fully understands what stress is on students. A motion calling for the plans to be scrapped has passed unanimously at its national conference in Wexford.
The Monaghan teacher says trust in the exam system is key and hopefully the current deferral of changes to the exam system to taking some papers in fifth year that is in place at present will be scrapped in full. Mr Tourish says there should be no rush in changing the model to the senior cycle of the exam system.
