A local TD has welcomed the decision of the Public Accounts Committee to recommend the suspension of the recruitment process for a new Secretary General of the Department of Health.
The PAC will write to the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform seeking a full review of the remuneration for the post.
Sinn Féin TD Matt Carthy says this decision highlights that there is “no rationale and no justification” for the proposed salary increase of €81,000.
This increase would see the new Secretary General of the Department of Health earn a salary of €292,000.
