A new Shared Island Civic Society Fund has been announced this week by Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Michael Martin.
Fianna Fail TD for Cavan-Monaghan, Niamh Smyth, says she is delighted to see the release of "further significant funding" under the Shared Island Initiative.
In its first three years, the Fund will enable organisations to work on a regional, national, and sectoral cross-border basis on various matters including climate and environment; community development; heritage and conservation; social enterprise; the charity and voluntary sector; and sport.
Deputy Smith told Shannonside Northern Sound that the Fund will allow groups within civil society to relish new opportunities, and encourage conversations between communities on both sides of the border.
She added that the Shared Island Initiative continues to focus on releasing "the full potential" of the Good Friday Agreement across this island.
