Cavan-Monaghan TD Brendan Smith has highlighted the importance of ensuring that we "cherish our democracy." The Fianna Fail representative who was elected to the Dáil last week for the 8th time voiced his concerns in relation to misinformation on social media, particularly in the lead-up to the General Election.
According to Deputy Smith, generations have died to give us the opportunity to elect our own Government and we should never take that for granted. He believes that restrictions must be put on social media as it's important that facts are given to the public. Speaking to Northern Sound, Deputy Smith says that as a society we must tackle the area of misinformation, an issue which he believes is damaging society.
