A local TD says a system needs to be implemented to replace the Cross Border Healthcare Directive.
This directive currently allows people within the EU to receive healthcare in another member state and be almost fully reimbursed, should the waiting lists in their own state be too long.
However, when the UK leave the EU, Cavan/Monaghan TD Brendan Smith is concerned that the ability for people south of the border to get treatments or procedures in the North will be stopped if a solution is not found.
He has called on the Health Minister to ensure that there is a similar arrangement found whether a Brexit deal is reached or not.
