A local TD says "significant funding" is required for a "complete overhaul" of roads in the Northern Sound region.
Niamh Smyth met with the Transport Minister Eamon Ryan this afternoon to discuss roads funding in Cavan and Monaghan.
Officials from Cavan County Council were also offered the opportunity to speak directly to the Transport Minister on the issue.
Deputy Smyth says Cavan and Monaghan are "utterly dependant" on the road network due to a lack of public transport.
She says an extra €5 million is needed just to maintain the current road network.
Speaking ahead of this afternoon's meeting, Deputy Smyth said a "sticky plaster job" isn't acceptable and a "complete revamp" of many roads is needed:
