A local TD says a new Bill on sick pay rights will be "difficult" for employers.
Fianna Fáil's Niamh Smyth added that the Bill "is a challenge for businesses".
However, Deputy Smyth says "it will provide conditions that benefit and encourage" those in lower-paid roles.
By 2025, all employees will be entitled to ten days sick leave a year, paid at 70% of their salary.
However, self-employed people will still be responsible for managing their own leave with no subsidy from the state.
