Local TD and head of the Oireachtas Media committee, Niamh Smyth, says RTÉ is "in limbo" with no board leadership. Media Minister Catherine Martin was before the committee last night to answer questions about the shock resignation of the RTÉ chair last week.
She'll also face statements in the Dáil this afternoon. Minister Martin said she was told by the current Director General that his predecessor, Dee Forbes, was not paid an exit package when she resigned last summer. Chair of the Oireachtas Media Committee and Fianna Fáil TD for Cavan-Monaghan Niamh Smyth says she wants to see proper accountability at RTÉ.
"The ultimate responsibility lands with the chair of the board," said Deputy Smyth. "We have no Chair and we have no Deputy-Chair. It leaves the organisation in limbo and I hope the first thing the Minister will do is to see that position being filled as quickly as possible so we have someone who is accountable."
