A recently published review into the Midwifery Led Unit at Cavan General Hospital is "good news that brings clarity" to women in the region.
That's according to local TD Niamh Smyth, who said there was concern for the future of the MLU.
The then Health Minister Simon Harris had requested the review after it emerged that the RCSI Hospital Group planned to merge the MLU with the consultant led unit in the facility.
The review had been expected to be completed in September of last year but was hit with a series of delays.
The RCSI Hospital Group review states that the MLU at the hospital "remains fully operational and there is no restriction on eligible women who desire MLU care".
Deputy Smyth says the review provides "absolute certainty that the MLU is here to stay", and added that a Senior Clinician has been identified for the unit:
