A local TD says poor working conditions in Irish hospitals is leading to a shortage in consultants.
Pauline Tully was speaking after she recently raised the issue of a Cavan family who was told their son would have to wait three and a half years to be seen by a paediatric urologist.
She told the Dáil that the family can't afford to wait, but can't afford get seen quicker by a private consultant.
The Sinn Fein Deputy told Shannonside Northern Sound that from talking to medical professionals abroad, it's the working conditions in the Irish health system that's stopped them from returning home to fill vital posts.
Pauline Tully said we're more than a year from seeing a second paediatric urologist employed.
