A local TD has reiterated the importance of a Brexit deal for people and businesses in the border region.
The Withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union Legislation was before Dáil yesterday and Cavan/Monaghan TD Brendan Smith took the opportunity to highlight the adverse impacts for local communities.
Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Coveney reassured him that even if there is no EU-UK Relationship Agreement the Northern Ireland Protocol will be implemented.
However, Minister Coveney stated that talks are continuing and they anticipate finding a deal.
Deputy Smith emphasised the need for all businesses to be prepared, but particularly smaller companies, fearing many may be unfamiliar with the inevitable customs checks that will ensue:
