The Minister with responsibility for Disabilities, Anne Rabbitte has acknowledged the difficultes that have arisen in Cavan and Monaghan regarding respite services.
She was responding to Sinn Féin TD, Matt Carthy, who raised the matter in the Dáil recently.
Deputy Carthy told the Minister about a family in his constituency who are going through turmoil because they cannot access respite for their child who has significant needs.
Meanwhile, Minister Rabbitte agreed to meet with the family to discuss the matter further.
She added how hard it is to understand why in 21st century Ireland, a behavioural barrier is still in place around the country.
