The Minister for Transport, Eamon Ryan, and the Road Safety Authority have been questioned on what is being described as "unacceptable delays" being experienced by applicants for driving tests in Cavan and Monaghan.
Local TD, Deputy Brendan Smith said that according to the RSA, the estimated wait time for a new applicant applying for a car test at Cavan driving test centre at the end of August was 19 weeks, which is above the national average of 14 weeks.
He added the delay was "unacceptable" and highlighted how the RSA had previously advised that the number of testers should increase from 100 to 130.
However, it emerged during questions posed by the Cavan Monaghan TD, that a recruitment process has begun.
Deputy Smith highlighted the importance of dealing with the matter in an effective and timely manner and added how he expected to see improvements by late Autumn.
