It's 'farcical' that key people behind RTE's Toy Show The Musical won't be appearing before the Oireachtas Media Committee, according to its chair. Representatives from RTE will face a grilling from politicians, but it won't include former executive members behind the €2.2 million flop. Current Director General Kevin Bakhurst will attend, but former boss Dee Forbes won't be, citing ill health.
Chair of the Committee and Cavan-Monaghan TD, Niamh Smyth says it's 'unacceptable' that many of the people behind the musical won't be there. "Of course I'm disappointed, it's farcical to be having the conversation without the key people, as Toy Show The Musical was the brainchild of Mr Coveney and Ms Doherty - who they were certainly the driving force," said Deputy Smyth.
