Not a single home has been delivered in County Monaghan under the government's so-called Affordable Housing Scheme. That's according to Sinn Féin's Deputy Matt Carthy.
He said what is even worse, under this government no such homes will ever be delivered in this county. Deputy Carthy has lauded the Sinn Féin Affordable Homes Plan, launched in this past week, as the mechanism that will bring home ownership back into the reach of ordinary people.
The plan sets out how a Sinn Féin government would deliver genuinely affordable homes, costing between €250,000 to €300,000 to every community. Deputy Carthy said the housing crisis has seeped into every corner of this state. He said that didn't happen by accident - it is the inevitable result of the policies pursued by Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael.
The Cavan Monaghan TD said nowhere are their failures more evident than in the fact that their so-called affordable housing scheme excludes counties such as Monaghan because, bizarrely, government think that house prices here are noy yet unaffordable enough.
