Fianna Fáil TD Brendan Smith has received confirmation that a new National Strategy on Youth Work will be published in September.
Minister for Children Roderic O'Gorman told Deputy Smith, in response to a parliamentary question, that the document will provide the Government "with a strengthened strategic approach to further support and develop young people's developmental opportunities".

Speaking to Northern Sound, the Cavan-Monaghan TD said we must do "everything" to improve the lives of young people in Ireland and secure a better future for them.
According to Deputy Smith a strategy that aims to implement better supports for young people so they can flourish at work is hugely important.

He continued; "A recent report by the National Youth Council of Ireland found 'the most pressing concerns of those aged 18 to 29 years in Ireland are housing and the cost-of-living'. The research showed almost half of respondents were dissatisfied with their current housing situation and one in five had skipped meals due to the cost. "These finding are hugely worrisome and need to be addressed across
government. We need to ensure that young people across the country have the supports they need to thrive."
Minister O'Gorman also told Deputy Smith that last year the Department of Children published Young Ireland: the National Policy Framework for Children and Young People, which sets out the priority issues to be addressed for young people (0-24). It sets out clear commitments for key Departments with responsibilities in the most relevant policy areas, including housing, youth mental health and employment.
