Fianna Fáil TD for Cavan and Monaghan, Brendan Smith is urging the HSE and Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly to intervene to ensure the continuance of existing service levels for the North East Doctor On Call.
In recent days it has emerged that the HSE is planning to reduce cover.
Deputy Smith said the service provides vital healthcare for many people in the North East.
Meanwhile, according to the HSE plan, a 'reconfigured ' service will come into force on Tuesday the 4th of August next.
