A Cavan-Monaghan TD has called on the government to "stick up for families" by prioritising an extension to paid Parent's Leave.
The Cabinet approved the extension which will entitle parents to five weeks of Parent's Leave after their child is born or adopted, rather than the two weeks previously available.
It will be available to parents whose child was born or adopted after November 2019.
However, this legislation has yet to be enacted and Sinn Féin's Pauline Tully says "families can't keep waiting" and they "need support now".
She told Shannonside Northern Sound that the legislation has the support of the Dáil and it could be quickly enacted "if the will is there":
