It's understood up to 30 Irish citizens are on a list of people who will leave Gaza today through the Rafa Crossing into Egypt. A number of the 40 Irish people known to be there, were notified last night they could be on the list and were advised to make their way towards the Rafah gate.
Tánaiste Micheál Martin arrived in Egypt overnight and told reporters he was 'hopeful'. Sinn Fein's spokesperson on Foreign Affairs Matt Carthy says he hopes today will bring positive news.
"We welcome any developments in respect of Irish citizens or their families in Gaza and hope that all citizens of Gaza who wish to leave are able to do so. Of course we reiterate our call for the release of all hostages, particularly young Emily Hand."
