A local TD has hit out at the "last-minute planning" that has resulted in the majority of special schools not taking part in the Summer Provision Programme.
Traditionally known as July Provision, the scheme is designed to give additional tuition during the summer months for children with special educational needs and those at risk of educational disadvantage.
While Deputy Pauline Tully welcomed additional funding for the programme, she says "eleventh hour planning" from the Department, which saw details of the scheme being announced in Mid-May, will result in a significant portion of this funding not being spent.
The Sinn Féin TD has called for a "root and branch review" of the programme to encourage more schools to take part:
