A local TD says the pig sector needs a specific support to help it recover from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Fianna Fail's Brendan Smith was speaking as he welcomed the recent €7 million fund for pig farmers.
The money is being provided by the Department of Agriculture in response to the rising cost of feed and falling pig prices.
Brendan Smith says the pandemic limited the demand for pork and many non-national labourers left Ireland and these issues must be met with finance.
He says the sector will recover but needs backing until then.
