"We're going to increase the homeless population if we don't do something to help those in dire straits." That's according to Cavan/Monaghan Sinn Fein TD, Pauline Tully.
Speaking on this morning's Joe Finnegan Show, Deputy Tully has called for "more to be done" in relation to supporting people after the ECB introduced yet another hike in mortgage interest rates.
According to Deputy Tully, one local woman whose husband took a stroke last year was told that they would be "better off in arrears" when it comes to accessing support opportunities.
As a result, Deputy Tully has called for more support to be given to those who are struggling to make mortgage payments.
Meanwhile, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has indicated that measures in terms of mortgage interest relief, will be examined during talks on the budget 2024. Financial Advisor Paraic Kissane says there will be "fallout" regardless of what the Government does.
