Cavan-Monaghan TD Brendan Smith has said flood relief schemes need to be put in place more quickly.
Speaking in the wake of Storm Debi when thousands of homes across the Shannonside/Northern Sound area were left without power, Deputy Smith said one of the things preventing the faster roll-out of flood relief schemes is "frivolous objections".
While he praised emergency services and local authorities for the work they did to clear roads and make areas safe following this week's storm, the local TD said we all must "do our bit" and "get our house in order".
"More storms like Debi are inevitable", he said.
