Members of the public feel "anger, frustration and disappointment" over recent controversies facing RTE. That's according to Cavan-Monaghan TD Niamh Smyth who is Chairperson of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport & Media.
Dee Forbes is being urged to appear before the Oireachtas committee this week, despite announcing she's resigning as RTÉ Director General. She's apologised for her part in the ongoing controversy surrounding an undisclosed €345,000 paid to Ryan Tubridy.
Speaking on this morning's Joe Finnegan Show, Deputy Smyth believes it's important for those involved to "set the record straight." Deputy Smyth explained, "I believe that Dee Forbes and the Executive Board would be wise to use this opportunity given to them by the Oireachtas committee.
"It's a very measured, balanced and controlled opportunity for both the Executive and members of the Oireachtas who represent the public to ask the questions and for them to give the answers. If they don't take this opportunity, it further compounds the hurt, disappointment and anger that is out there amongst the public."
