Speaking in the Dáil this week, Cavan Monaghan TD, Deputy Brendan Smith, repeated his call for a full and comprehensive investigation into the Belturbet bombing which caused the deaths of two teenagers, Geraldine O'Reilly and Patrick Stanley.
Deputy Smith called on the Taoiseach to provide assurance that "every possible support" will be provided by the Government to ensure the investigation by An Garda Síochána is progressed as soon as possible.
He said the investigation was an important one and required co-operation from the public North and South, and from authorities on both sides of the border so that the perpetrators of the "heinous crime" could be brought to justice.
Deputy Smith paid tribute to the O'Reilly and Stanley families whom he added, have always campaigned for justice with the utmost grace and dignity. Meanwhile, Taoiseach Micheál Martin said that every resource will be given to An Garda Síochána to bring those responsible "for these terrible crimes" to justice.
