A local TD has called for an energy price freeze and for changes to be made to the carbon tax.
Cavan/Monaghan TD Pauline Tully says she is concerned for elderly people and those on lower incomes due to the carbon tax increase, which will push up fuel costs.
She added that the carbon tax is particularly unfair on fuel suppliers along the border given that the tax doesn't exist in the North.
Deputy Tully also says the backlog in the Better Energy Warmer Homes Scheme needs to be "addressed as a matter of urgency".
The scheme improves the energy efficiency of homes owned by pensioners and lower-income households, but a backlog of over 7,300 homes has developed under this scheme.
