A local TD has called for additional investment to be made towards the inland waterways in the region.
Fianna Fáil’s Brendan Smith has asked that the programme be re-energised through an increase in funding allocation to both maintain and improve these facilities across the country.
While there was an increase this year of 546,000 euro towards these amenities this year, Deputy Smith says more is required to see an arrest in declining boat movements locally, as well as the development of more cycle blue ways.
He says that capital investment in these waterway projects would be a huge boost for the local economy and would also protect the existing infrastructure.
