A local TD has been appointed as Co -Chair of the British-Irish Parliamentary Assembly.
Cavan/Monaghan TD Brendan Smith has been given the role along with Andrew Rosindell, a Conservative MP who was appointed by Westminster.
This appointment comes at a time when there will be greater emphasis on parliamentary engagement between Dublin and London following Brexit.
The BIPA will hold plenary meetings alternating between Britain and Ireland examining sovereign matters, European affairs, economic issues and environmental and social issues.
