A Cavan-Monaghan TD says public health advice must take precedence over economic concerns.
The National Public Health Emergency Team has advised that Dublin be moved to level 3, and Fianna Fáil's Niamh Smyth says this will be a very difficult decision for the government; an official announcement is expected this evening.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show, Deputy Smyth also hit back at claims from TD Denis Naughten that the communications strategy from the current government has "fallen off a cliff".
She accused some in the opposition of "fueling the fire of confusion and chaos" and says that the government has produced a "very clear" five-stage plan:
