A new campaign has been launched to create more awareness and better understating of dementia. The 'Understand Together' campaign is aimed at inspiring people from all sections of society to stand together with the 500,000 Irish people whose families have been affected by dementia.
Elaine Kearney is a local advisor for the Dementia Society of Ireland in counties Cavan and Monaghan. Speaking on today's Joe Finnegan Show, Elaine said "quite often" people have a negative image of what dementia looks like, however in today's society this could not be further from the true.
According to Elaine, it's important for people to know that you can "live well" with Dementia. She went on to highlight how "social engagement" plays a major part in this. "We're hoping to inspire and encourage individuals, businesses and organisations and communities to become involved in taking steps to create inclusive and supportive environments for people with dementia and their loved ones."
