A knife-edge points race finish for the Class of 2022 across Cavan and Monaghan with college places began at 2pm today.
CAO places are at unprecedented levels because of inflated Leaving Cert grades.
The grade inflation will see some students losing out on college places because of a lottery selection that will be introduced.
Gerry Reilly, Guidance Counsellor at St Macartan's College in Monaghan, says their will be options for everyone and it is very important for students and parents to stay calm.
He added, there will be challenges ahead, even for those students who have done particularly well in the Leaving Cert.
"There has been some grade inflation over the last number of years," Mr Reilly continued.
"That is going to have an impact on the points that many courses are being offered at.
"So there will be challenges ahead.
"And, congratulations to all our students who all did so well in this year's Leaving Cert."
