A local Sinn Fein TD has introduced a bill to the Dail to regulate voluntary contributions in schools.
Along with his party's Education Spokesperson Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire, Matt Carthy introduced the legislation to the Oireachtas this week.
They are seeking legislative control during what is already an expensive time of year for parents.
The Private Members Bill was unopposed at this stage and has progressed to the second stage for further consideration.
Matt Carthy outlined what the bill aims to achieve.
