A Sinn Fein Councillor in Monaghan says increasing the Local Property Tax is a 'failure' to recognise the costs felt by families.
At Monday's Monaghan County Council meeting, it was recommended and passed that the local rate of LPT would increase by 15 per cent.
Each year councils get the option to adjust the rate by plus or minus 15 per cent, with it resetting after 12 months.
The move means the effective rate hasn't changed in five years.
Yesterday, Councillor Paudge Connolly defended the move saying it would bring addition funds to projects across the county.
Speaking on The Wider View, Brian McKenna said the funding would still be there regardless of the increase.
