Senator Robbie Gallagher has urged the Minister for Disabilities Anne Rabbitte to ask the HSE to reconsider the transport charge it has levelled at people with disabilities, who are attending day services in CH01 area of Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim.
The local public representative says its the only region in the country that has had the levy imposed on service users and it is "totally unfair".
The Minister told Senator Gallagher she has examined a pilot scheme in operation in Co Leitrim and discovered that it was working "very well".
She highlighted how it should be "expanded" to include Cavan and Monaghan service users.
Senator Gallagher, meanwhile, said he is hopeful now that some good news on the matter will be forthcoming, sooner rather than later.
