A local Senator says Bus Éireann is providing a "second class service" to Cavan and Monaghan.
Robbie Gallagher is calling for a debate on how bus services operate, particularly in counties that don’t have a rail line or other alternatives for public transport.
He said people are being left frustrated and standing at bus stops because by the time a bus does come to Monaghan, often there are no seats left.
In a statement to Northern Sound, Bus Éireann said seat reservation is available on Routes 30 and 32 but purchasing online tickets doesn't guarantee a seat.
It added that 30 per cent of seats are held for those who can't book online, on a first come first served basis.
Robbie Gallagher told the Seanad the local region is falling behind other parts of the country.
