A local senator has raised concerns that lower pupil numbers in schools could impact staffing levels next year.
Fianna Fáil senator in Monaghan Robbie Gallagher, says that some children have been unable to return to school for multiple reasons like living with a vulnerable person, or having health conditions themselves, and this has seen numbers in schools decrease.
He is concerned that when it comes to the number of teachers in a school next year, this year’s figures will have an impact and rural schools in particular will be affected.
