A local Senator has called for a longer-term cross border healthcare scheme, following the ending of the EU Cross Border Healthcare Directive,
A temporary scheme, titled the 'Northern Ireland Planned Healthcare System', has been set up for an initial 12 month period.
This scheme enables residents of the Republic of Ireland to be reimbursed for private healthcare in Northern Ireland by the HSE, provided such healthcare is publicly available within Ireland.
However, Robbie Gallagher says a more permanent solution is needed:
