Deravoy National School in Carrickroe is competing in the All Ireland 'Concern' debating competition. The event is taking place in the Helix in DCU at six o'clock this evening.
The national competition had over 260 schools taking part, with Deravoy National School and St Mary's National School in Cork down to the final two.
Speaking to Northern Sound ahead of this evening's event, teacher Fiona McGlynn said it was a "phenomenal" achievement for the school to reach this final stage.
She added that "win, lose or draw" she is extremely proud of the work that students and their families have put in to get to this point.
"We won the Monaghan stages of the competition out right," explained Fiona. "We then moved on to the Ulster finals and now the All-Ireland finals. For such a small school we have done phenomenally. Our last three debates have been against schools who have up to 800 pupils or more , so for a small school out in Carrick roe to achieve this has been phenomenal."
