Cathal Nolan from Ireland's Weather Channel predicts a lot more rainfall over the next week or so brought on by Storm Ciarán. The forecaster is hopeful, however, that the Northern Sound region will miss most of the storm's impact.
The weatherman said heavy showers and low pressure will lead to further falls of rain into the weekend and beyond. Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show earlier, Mr Nolan said "it's looking like the centre of the low will be a little further south than we had envisaged". However, he also warned "that this can change". Mr Nolan added: "It remains to be seen exactly just how much rain we'll see. That's very much dependent on the track of the system but, for ourselves, the north and border region in general, I don't think we're going to be too badly impacted by Storm Ciaran at all looking at the latest track at the moment," Cathal said.
Meanwhile, Met Éireann has issued an advisory yellow weather warning for the Northern Sound region. In a statement, the agency said: "On Tuesday and Wednesday, there will be heavy showers or longer spells of rain at times with flooding likely in places, as soils are saturated and river levels are high. Like Ireland's Weather Channel, however, Met Éireann, says most if the storm's impact will likely be felt in southern and eastern coastal counties
