The big challenge for poultry farmers in Cavan and Monaghan is to keep bird flu out of captive birds.
That's according to Monaghan's IFA chairman, Patrick McCormack who was speaking in light of new Department of Agriculture measures after the outbreak of avian flu along the west cost.
Mr McCormack said farmers in this region are very concerned over the latest developments.
He highlighted how the flu is confined to coastal areas at present.
The local IFA chief warned that the risk will increase with the migration of birds inland over the next few weeks.
"The only way to keep it out is for farmers to be very vigilant of their biosecurity measures," added Mr McCormack.
"They shouldn't let any non-essential visitors on to their site."
